This one Bret wrote all the music on. Using his Goth and Industrial influences by playing an aggressive, unrelenting, bass line with an abrasive guitar lead, featuring the horns as support for the guitar lead. Casey's vocals are just as aggressive as the track he was presented. This track has some real power, and like everything on this EP has headed into a more aggressive zone. The band seems to find itself comfortable here.
lyrics
Punishment - that’s what you get when you’re up against the number one contender.
We could go toe to toe
pound for pound
blow for blow
but this is class war
So don’t you claim to know my pain
when my eyes and my name you can’t remember
It’s just a matter of time before you’re tried for all your heinous crimes
This time you can’t just run and hide
Yeah, this time you gotta get right
Is god here to punish or forgive?
The preacher really couldn’t say.
He stuffed his pockets with cash, turned his back and said
“I guess we’ll just have to pray.”
It’s so sad to think of those to come - when you think of all those we left behind
We’re caged birds
We all know the words
But not one will ever sing a single line
